East St
On the sixth floor of a high rise
With the smell of mould and leaking gas
It’s rusty rails and a view out to the sea
Was my first pad on east st
If I could go back to that time together
Of diamonds and pearls lying on the beach
Is there something I could say or do
To keep those shadows out of reach?
Days past since those times we spent together
Living high up on east st
Now 20 years on and I never see you ever
And it’s hard to believe
That we knew even back then
This was the end my friend
That we knew even back then
This was the end my friend
Across the sand that horse was running
At a pace I couldn’t match and it wasn’t just the sun going down
Across the dock cranes and the tracks
Days past since those times we spent together
Living high up on east st
Now 20 years on and I never see you ever
And it’s hard to believe
That we knew even back then
This was the end my friend
That we knew even back then
This was the end my friend
The falling sun was setting
It still hasn’t
Risen again
Since you drove me to the plane
And in the car we were singing
As we drove away
This is the end my friend
The falling sun was setting
It still hasn’t
Risen again
Since you drove me to the plane
And in the car we were singing
As we drove away
This is the end my friend
This is the end my friend
This is the end my friend
Wednesday Walk Out
She kept all her money in a jar by her bed
She was just realistic about the days ahead
No one would touch it cause there was no one else there
One key to the front door
No need for a spare
She started early and never was late
By eleven o’clock she was starting to fade
Just watching the clock spin
She was locked in a trap
Til the wind finally claimed her
she never went back
She’s a Wednesday walk out
She’s a Wednesday walk out
And she knows it completely
She took what she had
And she never went back
He gets home at seven to a couple of beers
He waits for the weekend as the weeks become years
his friends are now distant calls down the line
It’s nobody’s fault it just happens in time
But his focus is dimming on the world that he sees
No light of wonder
No spark in his dreams
And he does nothing different so his days are the same
He’s waiting for something
Something to change
He’s a Wednesday walk out
He’s a Wednesday walk out
And he knows it completely
He took what he had and he never went back
He’s a Wednesday walk out
He’s a Wednesday walk out
And he knows it completely
He took what he had and he never went back
He took what he had and he never went back
He took what he had and he never went back
Rise Up
When I’m strung out, out of my body,
And yesterday is just a blur,
When today is just a race,
And tomorrow’s already over,
I want to break free and make time,
Take my self out for an hour,
And though it might test me in the break line,
It’s in there that I feel the power,
And when my mind just can’t think clearly,
And my heart won’t seem to rest,
And my struggles seem never ending,
And in my own home I feel like a guest,
I need to break free and see that,
I have something to give,
And I can set things in motion and I can feel that,
When the waves rise up and lift
Rise up rise up rise
When I’m out on the ocean,
And my troubles I’ve left behind,
Well I look back to shore and I see them,
But they’re only half of their size,
And I wish I could stay there forever,
But I know that it has its time,
And it’s not that I want to surrender,
It’s just that I don’t want to fight,
I want to rise up, rise up, rise
Trust the River
She came from the highlands
Rode out in the night
She followed the highways
Down to the city lights
She rode through the town gates
With the country air inside her
The wind and the starry skies came following after
She fell from her horse once
As she raced through the water
She learnt you can’t trust a tight rope
But you can trust the river
Oh I’m in love with you
New to the city streets
I was busking for 2 bucks
She came up beside me
I lifted my voice up
And as I felt her listening
My voice became clearer
I swear I remember
That road turn to a river
She was raised in the highlands
With those white cliffs and rolling stones
And the wind and the laughter
Well they followed her where she goes
Oh I’m in love with you
She fell from her horse once
As she raced through the water
She learnt you can’t trust a tight rope
But you can trust the river
Oh I’m in love with you
I’m in love with you
Extraordinary Life
I got bitten by a black widow in my sleep,
For no reason when I awoke it was dead beside me,
I’ve walked into traffic and survived,
Cars drove right through me and I walked on by,
So let me be dazzled in shock and awe,
Pinch myself,
Have to question it all,
Give it in one breath,
Make me silent,
Show me an extraordinary life,
Shower me with gold and silver
Show me an extraordinary life,
Let it shine bright,
I fell in the cage with a lion but it didn’t eat me,
All he wanted ,
All it was after was to be free,
All I’ve made are outlines of maps to discover,
All I’ve drawn are pictures with no colour,
So let me be dazzled in shock and awe,
Pinch myself,
Have to question it all,
Give it in one breath,
Make me silent,
Show me an extraordinary life,
Shower me with gold and silver
Show me an extraordinary life,
Let it shine bright,
I’ve turned my back,
I’ve closed my eyes,
I’ve made plans,
For my life,
But let me be dazzled in shock and awe,
Pinch myself,
Have to question it all,
Give it in one breath,
Make me silent,
Show me an extraordinary life,
Shower me with gold and silver
Show me an extraordinary life,
Let it shine bright,
Let it shine bright,
Let it shine bright,
Days End
Days end
Glass of wine before bed
Breathe in
The air is humid and wet
Just watching the sunset
Losing my way on the hill
Wishing it was me that you wanted to find
Even though we were together at the time
I bumped into you on a track
On a NYE a long time back
And its funny how it plays on my mind
I keep going back there time after time
Taken back by the wine and the songs
Drifting back through times long gone
Just watching the sunset
Losing my way on the hill
Wishing it was me that you wanted to find
Even though we were together at the time
Just watching the sun rise up
Ever so lonely through the hills
Watching it all like a ghost of the past
And seeing in your smile
We never would last
And I cried like a child cause I knew
Something that needed no proof
That our hearts they would always pass by
It was the truth that caught me that night
And the darkness seemed empty and thin
Caught out where we shouldn’t have been
And now the songs
they don’t let me forget
Will I ever really let the sunset
At the days end
It not that I want to go back
There’s a smile in your eyes
And I don’t want to change that
Just watching the sunset
Losing my way on the hill
Wishing it was me that you wanted to find
Even though we were together at the time
Just watching the sun rise up
Ever so lonely through the hills
Watching it all like a ghost of the past
And seeing in your smile
You would never be mine
I bumped into you on a track
On a New Years Eve a long time back
And its funny how it plays on my mind
I keep going back there time after time
Is this the Day
A sunny day
A sunny shore
I’d walk with you til there was no more
I feel that sun it’s on my back yeh yeh
Can you feel that
I take my guitar off the rack
I see those curtains rolling back
I see their faces
Hear them roar yeh yeh
Can you hear that
How’s it gonna be when I see you again
How’s it gonna be now I know it’s the end
Is this the day it all gave way
Is this the day it all gave way
Is this the day it all gave way
Is the day it gave way
I’ve got my bag
I’ve got my keys
I leave my messages I received
There ain’t no way I’m calling back yeh yeh
Can you see that
How’s it gonna be when I see you again
How’s it gonna be now I know it’s the end
Is this the day it all gave way
Is this the day it all gave way
Is this the day it all gave way
Is the day it gave way
Is this the day
Is this the day
Is this the day
Say Goodbye
On a corner block
Exposed to the street
Our bedroom windows lit
Like a lamp in a tree
Our baby slept
Each night for seven years
From cot to single bed
With a smile on his lips
And for that and our friends on the street
For our trestle table banquets with it’s table clothes and tea
We say goodbye to the house
We lived in for seven years
For seven years we lived
Under a golden rainbow
With our fires at night
With our bikes and beers
And all the good times we had
For all of those years
With it’s old tyre swing
And it’s low brick wall
And the treehouse our neighbours built
Out the front for us all
We share our lives in our home by the sea
We watched our boys growing up
As they climbed up the peppermint tree
We say goodbye to the house
We lived in for seven years
For seven years we lived
Under a golden rainbow
In a corner block
Exposed to the street
Our baby slept inside
Like a star on a tree
Orange Lady
For a year our Dad started building fulltime,
And traded our Kombi in for a red Holden ute,
And I remember the day that our car left the drive,
The feelings that we all had as we waved it goodbye,
We’d had that Kombi since it was new,
Been to the North and the South,
From perth to FNQ,
We were riding in the orange lady,
We were riding,
We wre riding in the orange lady,
We were riding in the orange lady,
She hosted our parties and carried our trees,
We saw the North and the South,
All at low speed,
But their was no other choice and we had to sell,
So we all stood back and watched,
Her roll down our hill,
We’de had that Kombi since it was new,
It took our family of six from Perth to Timbucktoo,
We’d go riding in the orange lady,
We’d go riding,
We’d go riding in the orange lady,
We’de go riding in the orange lady,
We tell the story to our friends,
How Dad made some calls to try,
To buy it back again,
And the curtains were gone,
And they made him pay more,
But we waited all together til we heard,
Her chugging back once more,
We’ve had that Kombi since it was new,
Been to the North and the South from Perth to FNQ,
We go riding in the orange lady,.
We go riding,
We go riding in the orange lady,
We go riding in the orange lady
