Rehearsal with Steve tonight

Steve and I worked on quite a few songs, listening to past recordings and working out melodies and parts for our next Basement gig.
Here is the link for the event from the moshtix site, where you can check out the guest artists and get tickets for Monday 20th July.
Here is Steve tonight at my place, plus a few more photos I’ve taken in the last couple of days including our old dog, Ruby.

Location Hunting

The last week I’ve really enjoyed finding new places I’ve never been to before within about a 5 minute drive from my place. Just up the road on the stretch from North Bondi to Dover Heights, I’ve found 3 amazing locations where I’m really looking forward to just sitting with my guitar and letting some time pass by. I’ll take a few photos. Below are a few I took over the weekend. I got some great news about a possible Basement gig in July, so I’ll let you know when it is confirmed, probably tomorrow. Just a mention that I’ve got a Nick Drake tribute night that I’m playing a set at The Vanguard coming up on the 29th of July. I’ll post the details soon. I hope you are having a great day!p21-06-09_1455

The Basement gig last night

It was so great to play with everyone last night.

Our rehearsals meant that we were pretty tight with the forms and we ended up having heaps of room to move with the dynamics. The strings were beautiful and moved in and out of the songs like swells, Lenni’s singing was so emotional and perfect, Si’s playing was amazing on double bass and our double guitar song went really well and it was such a treat to be playing with Jacob again. He locks everything together and is so solid and restrained and then moves and builds the dynamic so strongly.

The set went down well. We played Angel – just 2 guitars, Say Goodbye joined by Lenni and Jacob, Fool for Love and Side by Side. Steve and Nadene joined us on violin and viola for All I wanted was you, The Long Way and then Up to You, which I played on piano, and then we finished with Time to be Free and Finding Out.
Kitch and Jess from the Scarletts sung so beautifully and it was very heartfelt and emotional. They have great songs and have something very special happening in their music. Nick Latta closed the night with an amazing band that was very tight, punchy and uplifting. Their harmonies were just so spot on and excellent to see and hear. I definitely would like to see them again. They really suited a large venue with everyone getting right into their sound and enjoying the full of life energy that the whole band had.

Chris did just an awesome job on the sound again, as he always does and it was great to see him.
Thanks to all our friends that came to support us and for The Acoustic Lounge for inviting us to play. Hopefully it won’t be too long before the next one. Just got my eye out now for a nice venue to play
