Merry Xmas

words/music © matt ralph 2001

If that’s what you want to say then fine,

I’ll take a cab from the front door and say so long lover,

It’s been a rough time,

It’s been a big year,

And now you’re telling me on Xmas eve that’s it’s no longer,

Well couldn’t you’ve waited for the new year,

I won’t pretend that I thought it was for the long haul,

You know I loved how we used to take it day by day,

But just when I thought it was going to be a good Xmas,

You had to bring it up,

All that well where do we go from here deal,

So Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year,

I think what you’re giving me is perfectly clear,

But it’s such a bad time for you to take away,

My fantasies and dreams of us both in love,

You know I’ve always loved Xmas,

Haven’t had a bad one yet,

You know I love the decorations and sentimental things like that,

But I see the sad eyed girls in the park,

And I think it’s such a bad time to break away,

You know I’ve always felt that,

Now I’m getting it out of my system with my own Xmas song,

But it could have been a happy one,

Could have been about a flight of stairs with a nesting bird,

Singing an ancient song,

With those tiny eggs hatching to the break of light,

As we came dancing home,

You know I want to sing for you,

But this ain’t about what I want,

No,

You were just cleaning out your cupboards,

And I was on the list of things that had to go,

So Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year,

I think what I got,

Is just what you wanted,

But it’s such a bad time to be in the park,

Looking like the sad eyed girls that you see a lot,

Round this time of year

Wish For

I’m inside,

Looking out the window,

At the spring rain,

Dancing off the roof,

Everything’s quiet,

Everything’s O.K.

And then Something,

Something to wish for,

Like a rainbow,

Something to wish for,

Like the sun,

Like the woman,

Like it’s just begun,

How we used to drink our echoes,

Spinach salad at The Moon,

And I tell you that I love you,

And we walk into the other room,

That’s all that I wish for,

That’s all that I want,

Caught between the wishing for,

And the what I’ve got,

Maybe I could cut my hair,

Pack my things and head somewhere,

Leave my keys with a friend next door,

Leave a message hanging off my door,

Gone to find my woman,

Be with her again,

I don’t know where I’ll find her,

But I hear her call my name,

And then it’ll be alright,

We’ll be running in the middle of the night,

We’ll be howling to the devils in the rain,

I’ll be kissing your lips again,

And we’ll both be dancing,

Words will fall away,

Just a look between us,

Just a glance some day,

That’s all I wish for like a rainbow,

That’s all I wish for like the sun,

Like the woman,

Like it’s just begun

Between Us

words/music © matt ralph 2001

Another person,

Another life,

And full the love between us,

I see her,

And I see him,

The one with in the other,

And all the time,

We kiss and touch,

It’s man with man and woman upon woman,

Cause I am a woman,

As much as she’s a man,

Cause nothing and I mean nothing at all is between them,

I read her verse,

I wipe her tear,

I feel the space between us,

I hold her hand,

She holds my hand,

She’s strong as she embraces me,

And all the time,

We kiss and touch,

It’s man with man and woman upon woman,

Cause I am a woman,

As much as your a man,

Cause nothing and I mean nothing at all is between them,

Back from Nowra’s Teaclub

It was so great to be able to spend the afternoon playing music for the great kids and families of Nowra. The weather was kind and sunny and everyone seemed very relaxed and happy to be there. We raised a bit of money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, thanks to the support of the Nowra community and that was a very rewarding outcome. The kids that were there were very keen to join in the music, and for most of the day I was joined on stage by them, singing, playing tambourine and stompbox, or dancing in front of the stage to some of my quiet songs, which was fun. Thanks to Charlie for sending through this pic. Just gearing up now for the Basement gig this coming Monday.
